Güicán is a small town in the Colombian Department of Boyacá. What's so special about it is that it lies at almost 3,500m above sea level and it is very close to El Cocuy National Park. What I had no idea about before I got here, was how beautiful that national park is and how many incredible hikes you can do from here. There are multiple trails to choose from. Most of them start at around 4,000m of elevation and go up to almost 5,000m.

Those are all serious hikes and you need a local guide to embark on them, but if you are into hiking some less known trails I would highly recommend spending some time in the area.

For the motorbike riders out there - getting here was a thrilling, mostly off-road ride. Different landscapes, ups and downs. Road kept on changing its nature multiple times, and unannounced. Sometimes it was gravel roads, sometimes a slalom in between landslide rumble, long time following a river surrounded by fields of cacti.
